Online shop for takeaways: online ordering for burgers, kebabs, tacos and chips

“An XL tacos, minced beef and chicken, cheese sauce, Algerian sauce, no onions, extra cheddar, as a meal deal, but with a sugar-free drink.” Over the phone, at 10 pm, with the extractor fan roaring, this order has every chance of arriving with onions.

An online shop lets customers build their order themselves, at their own pace, and sends you a written, paid order. Here is how 123Ventes answers the questions that come with running a takeaway.

Your own online ordering, with no commission

Delivery platforms make your takeaway known, but they take a commission on every order. On a 10 € meal deal, you soon feel it at the end of the month. Your own shop costs a fixed subscription: the more you sell, the less it costs you per order.

Keep the platform if it brings you customers, and give your shop’s address to your regulars: on the bag, on the receipt, on a small sign by the counter.

A menu you can read with a flick of the thumb

Burgers, kebabs, tacos, chips, meal deals, drinks, desserts: you create your categories just like on your illuminated menu board. Each product has its photo, its description and its price. Feature the burger of the month or the student deal, and it appears at the top.

Your customers mostly order on their phones. The shop adapts to small screens, see the shop on mobile.

Sauces, meats and extras

In a takeaway, the real menu is the options. On each product, you offer as many lists as you need:

The price adjusts with each choice. The lists are created once, then reused on all the products concerned. See catalogue management.

Meal deals: chips, drink, dessert

The meal deal is built with the same lists. The customer chooses their burger, then “meal deal” or “on its own”. If they take the meal deal, they choose their chips, small or large, and their drink from the list provided. The extra for the deal and for large chips is added automatically. You can also offer sides separately: mozzarella sticks, nuggets, onion rings.

Takeaway or delivered by you

The customer chooses between two options:

An address outside your zones can’t choose delivery. You can also offer free delivery above a set amount, with the promotion rules. The details are on the delivery options page.

Open late, but not all night

You enter your time slots day by day: for example from 11 am to 3 pm and from 6 pm to 1 am at the weekend. Outside these hours, customers can look at the menu, but they can’t confirm their order: a message shows them your opening hours. The 4 am kebab will have to wait until you are awake.

The shop doesn’t let customers choose an exact collection time. They can leave a note with their order, for example “I’ll be there in twenty minutes”.

During the rush

Each new order sets off a sound alert in your dashboard, which works on a phone or tablet. You see the product, every sauce, every extra and the customer’s note. A button prints the order slip in large type on your computer’s printer. 123Ventes is neither a till system nor a kitchen screen, but the slip is easy to read next to the spit.

The order is already paid for and its invoice is created as a PDF. See order management.

Allergens, hygiene and loyalty

The rules for food businesses apply online just as at the counter: hygiene, price display, and allergen information before purchase. List the allergens in the description of each product and each sauce. For the details, check with your local food safety authority (in France, the DDPP of your département), your chamber of trades or your chamber of commerce (in France, the CCI).

To build loyalty, promotion rules give a free item after a certain number of orders, a discount on the Tuesday meal deal, or loyalty points. A newsletter announces the new burger. Text messages are available as an option.

How much it costs

The subscription costs 29 € a month or 319 € a year, with hosting and the security certificate included. 123Ventes takes no commission on your orders: only your payment provider’s fees apply, about 0.55 € on a 20 € order paid by card. If you would rather stay at the griddle, the turnkey set-up costs 400 €. The details are on the pricing page.

Your questions

Can my customers pay cash on delivery?

No: orders placed in the shop are paid online, by card or PayPal. Cash or payment on delivery is not available. Your driver has no change to give and no unpaid orders to chase.

How many sauces and extras can I offer?

As many as your menu has. Each list of options can be single or multiple choice, with a price per option, a maximum or an included option.

Can I keep a delivery platform as well?

Yes. Your shop doesn’t replace the platforms, it comes on top of them. Many takeaways keep both and steer their regulars towards their own website, with no commission.

How long does it take to put my menu online?

The shop is created in a minute. The longest part is the lists of sauces and extras, but they are created once for the whole menu. Allow a day for a full menu, photos included.
